The defending American Basketball Association (ABA) Central Region Finalists, the Indiana Lyons, completed a clean 6-0 sweep through the preseason on Saturday and are ready for the 2024-25 ABA regular season to begin Oct. 19 at Bosstick Gym in Danville.
The Lyons began their preseason in Bedford, Indiana, with a 3-0 romp through the IBL ProAm Land of Indiana Nationals tournament in early September on their way to claiming the tournament championship. Their championship banner now hangs on the west side of Bosstick Gym.
They returned home to the Lyons Den to dispatch the Indiana Shuckers in Sept. 21 preseason action, followed by home victories over the Chi-Town Rebels on Sept. 28 and the Indiana Legends on Saturday.
The ABA regular season begins for the Indiana Lyons on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. in Bosstick Gym against the Indiana Legends. The Legends are based in New Castle, Indiana.
Many familiar faces return to the Lyons this season, including multi-year ABA All-Star Gerald “Cam” Campbell, Jordan “Flash” Hidleburg, Preston “The Silent Assassin” Case, Phil Bessick, and 7-year veteran Mike Carter. Carter is the heart and soul of the team and the only athlete to play all 7 seasons of the Lyons’ existence.
Some former Lyons have returned to the pride, too. Vince Hill played the first two seasons in franchise history, took some time off to complete his education that includes a Masters Degree, and has returned for 2024-25. Corey Wright is another former Lyon who took some time off and has now returned to the team.
The Lyons also have a new player, Preston Roberts, who lit up the preseason with entertaining dunks, three-pointers, mid-range shots, a truckload of rebounds, and a wonderful personality.
The team invites the public to join them at Buffalo Wild Wings in Avon on Wednesday, Oct. 16 from 5 to 9 p.m. for a team fundraiser, where BW3 will donate a portion of their sales that evening to the team.
And, of course, everyone is encouraged to attend the season opener on Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. at Bosstick Gym and cheer the team on to victory.
The Lyons play at home again on Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. against the Maysville Miners out of Kentucky. Doors open an hour prior to each contest.
